Rusina wines protect and support the character of the vineyard
through minimalist winemaking and hands-on attention to detail.
Every vintage has its unique characteristics
and, over time, these characteristics develop into a distinct
style. In 2004, here is what we produced:
Rusina 2004 Zinfandel Alexander Valley

VINEYARDS:
- 93% Zinfandel from 30 year old bench land vineyards, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. 2 acres, low yielding, old clone selection. Harvested August 31 at 27.5° brix.
- 7% Petite Sirah, old vine, dry-farmed, from Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. 2 acres. Harvested October 1 at 24.2° brix.
WINEMAKING

The wine was fermented in one-ton fermentors. Hand-punched every six hours for maximum extraction of color and flavors.
- Malo-lactic fermentation in barrels.
- Tannin management – unfined.
BARREL REGIME
- Direct press to barrels.
- The wine was aged in 30% new, 3 year old air-dried
Hungarian (French species) oak for fourteen months.
TASTING NOTES
-
Complex flavors of black cherry, raspberry, black licorice and a hint of blueberry in the taste. This Zinfandel is rich and concentrated with excellent structure.
- Final Analysis:
Alcohol – 15.8%
T.A. – 0.59 grams/100 mls.
pH – 3.48
Residual sugar – 0.05 grams/100 mls

92% Zinfandel from 30 year old hillside vineyards, Dry Creek, Sonoma County. 1 acre, low yielding, old clone selection. Harvested September 8 at 26.7° brix.
- 8% Petite Sirah, old vine, dry-farmed, from Sonoma County. 2 acres. Harvested October 1 at 24.2° brix.
WINEMAKING
